The Protean Voice Intensive – finding Form in Text and Song

The thrust of this summer workshop, a regular event since 2022, is the protean nature of the voice: its capacity to reveal to us a multiplicity of sounds, that evoke emotion, summon up character, and drive us to communicate. This wealth of expression brings with it a depth of colour and dynamics, shaping our creative experience.. Our work will converge towards two ‘forms’: a song of your choice and shared extracts from The Circus of the Sun by the American poet Robert Lax. Caroline brings her finely tuned ear to this work, helping us to balance musicality and verbal muscle.

The workshop will include:

• Daily warm-up sequences designed to open up body, voice and spirit
• Solo and group vocal research, that extends range and elasticity
• The challenge of text work: how to expand interpretation
• The dynamic flow of musical imagination
• Solo and collaborative creative work

NOTE: We are looking for a small group of students (6-10) who have some experience in voicework and want to take their practice further. As some of the participants will be coming from outside Italy we would ask that you confirm participation  before 30th May latest. A deposit will then be requested to secure your place. Il fulcro di questo workshop estivo, appuntamento regolare dal 2022, è la natura proteiforme della voce: la sua capacità di rivelarci una molteplicità di suoni che evocano emozione,  fanno emergere il carattere, e che ci spingono a comunicare. Questa ricchezza di espressione porta con sé una profondità di colore e di dinamiche, plasmando la nostra esperienza creativa. Il nostro lavoro convergerà verso due “forme”: un canto a vostra scelta ed estratti condivisi da The Circus of the Sun del poeta americano Robert Lax. Caroline porta a questo lavoro il suo orecchio finemente allenato, aiutandoci a bilanciare musicalità e la forza verbale.
Il workshop includerà:

• Sequenze quotidiane di riscaldamento pensate per aprire corpo, voce e spirito
• Ricerca vocale individuale e di gruppo, volta ad ampliare estensione ed elasticità
• La sfida del lavoro sul testo: come espandere l’interpretazione
• Il flusso dinamico dell’immaginazione musicale
• Lavoro creativo solista e collaborativo

NOTA: Stiamo cercando un piccolo gruppo di studenti (6-10) che abbiano qualche esperienza nel lavoro vocale e vogliano approfondire la loro pratica. Poiché alcuni partecipanti arriveranno da fuori Italia, chiediamo di confermare la partecipazione entro e non oltre il 30 maggio 2025. Successivamente, verrà richiesto un acconto per garantire il posto.

L’axe principal de cet atelier d’été, rendez-vous régulier depuis 2022, est la nature protéiforme de la voix : sa capacité à nous révéler une multiplicité de sons qui évoquent l’émotion, font surgir les personnages et nous poussent à communiquer. Cette richesse d’expression apporte avec elle une profondeur de couleur et de dynamique, façonnant notre expérience créative. Notre travail confluera vers deux « formes » : le chant de votre choix et des extraits en commun de The Circus of the Sun du poète américain Robert Lax. Caroline apporte à ce travail son oreille finement aiguisée, nous aidant à équilibrer musicalité et puissance verbale.
L’atelier comprendra:

• Des séquences quotidiennes d’échauffement conçues pour ouvrir le corps, la voix et l’esprit
• Une recherche vocale individuelle et collective, visant à étendre l’étendue et l’élasticité
• Le défi du travail sur le texte : comment élargir l’interprétation
• Le flux dynamique de l’imagination musicale
• Un travail créatif en solo et en collaboration

NOTE : Nous recherchons un petit groupe de participants (6 à 10) ayant déjà une expérience du travail vocal et souhaitant approfondir leur pratique.
